Prairie Storm

The wind

whirls the spring storm

down the mountain, across

the wide valley chased by laden

rain clouds.

Fat drops

splatter on rocks

and wash dust from the air

as evening falls on the tallgrass

prairie.

The storm

passes. Thunder

fades as it dissipates

eastward toward the great muddy

river.

I watch

distant lightning

spark into darkness

before closing my eyes to sleep

in peace.
